2016 Events

January 4th, 2016 - The regular monthly meeting for our camp was held at our Headquarters. Commander Reynolds presented the CSA Army Service Medal to 1st Lt. Commander McGee to honor his GGG Uncle, SGT MAJ Samuel Norrell, who served with the 28th Georgia Infantry Regiment, Army of Tennessee, CSA. He also presented 1st Lt. Commander McGee with the Bronze Cross in recognition of his meritorious service to the 1st Lt. David R. Reynolds Camp.

January 16th, 2016 - Commander Joe Reynolds, 1st Lt. Commander Rex McGee and Compatriot O. M. Adams helped celebrate Confederate Hero's Day at the Longview Courthouse Square in Longview, Texas. Commander Reynolds carried the 1st National Flag during the ceremonies.

February 1st, 2016 - The regular monthly meeting for our camp was held at our Headquarters. Phil Davis, Texas Division Chairman of the Guardian Program, and Sam Mercer, 5th Brigade Commander, presented 1st Lt. Commander McGee with his Full Guardian Pin and Certificate.

February 6th, 2016 - A Mardi Gras Parade was held in Jefferson, Texas. Commander Joe Reynolds carried the First National Flag during the parade.

February 18th, 2016 - Commander Joe Reynolds attended the Swearing in Ceremony of New Officers and Compatriots of Camp #2269 in Tyler, Texas.

March 7th, 2016 - Chartering Ceremony of 1st Lt. David Richard Reynolds Camp #2270 at our Headquarters, Old Union Community Center, Mount Pleasant, Texas

April 4th, 2016 - The regular monthly meeting for our camp was held at our Headquarters. Camp Commander swore in two new members, Bill Guy and Randy Brock. Our program was presented by Compatriot Ellis Knox, who is awaiting membership approval. The subject was the development of intelligence programs and its impact upon the battle of Gettysburg and the Civil War as a whole.

April 9th, 2016 - The newly Chartered 1st Lt. David Richard Reynolds Camp held it's first Gravesite Memorial Service, this Cemetery Memorial was for Pvt. T. H. Greathouse at the Greathouse Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, Texas.

April 16th, 2016 - On this date, two Graveside Services were performed, the first Cemetery Memorial for Pvt. Wiley Bluette Cumbie, Enon Cemetery, Upshur Co. Texas in the morning and then a Cemetery Memorial for Pvt. George Foster Wyatt at the Old East Mountain Cemetery, East Mountain, Upshur Co. Texas in the afternoon. Members in attendance were Commander Joe Reynolds and 1st Lt. Commander Rex McGee.

April 23rd, 2016 - Cemetery Memorial for Pvt. James Monroe Turlington was held at Mount Pisgah Cemetery, Wood Co. Texas. Members in attendance were Commander Joe Reynolds and 1st Lt. Commander Rex McGee.

May 2nd, 2016 - The regular monthly meeting for our camp was held at our Headquarters. Camp Commander Joe Reynolds swore in three new members, Dennis Gunn, Rodney Love, & Jerry Reynolds. In addition, CDR Reynolds welcomed Harry King to the Camp as a "Friend of the SCV". The program was presented by Bill Starnes, 3rd Lt. Commander from Upshur Patriots. The subject was "7th Texas Infantry Company B, the effects of war on a typical East Texas Unit". It was a very interesting program.

May 21st, 2016 - Command Joe Reynolds, along with members of the Red Diamond Camp, joined the Arkansas Division and the United Daughters of the Confederacy for the 19th Annual Rondo Marker Dedication, Rondo Cemetery, Rondo, Arkansas.

June 3rd - 5th, 2016 - Texas Division held its Annual Reunion at the YO Ranch Resort and Conference Center in Kerrville, Texas. Members in attendance were Commander Joe Reynolds and 1st Lt. Commander Rex McGee.

June 6th, 2016 - The regular monthly meeting for our camp was held at our Headquarters. Honor Award from the 2016 Texas Division were given to 1st Lt. Commander Rex McGee and Mrs. Keithrie Reynolds. An informative program was brought by Evault Boswell, the subject was "Red River Rebels" A history of Northeast Texas during the Civil War and the years thereafter.

June 25th, 2016 - Commander Joe Reynolds presented a Certificate of Appreciation to the Bogota Rodeo Association for having Dixie played and the Confederate Battle Flag carried around the arena during opening ceremonies of the Rodeo.

July 2nd, 2016 - Commander Joe Reynolds carried the Trans-Mississippi flag in the 4th of July Parade in Ore City, Texas.

July 11th, 2016 - The regular monthly meeting for our camp was held at our Headquarters. Compatriot Ellis Knox was sworn in as our newest member and we awarded our first Annual Scholarship Award to Kimberly Dawn Stephens, the 6th Great Niece to our namesake 1st Lieutenant David Richard Reynolds.

July 16th, 2016 – 1st Lt. David Richard Reynolds Camp #2270 received the General Samuel Cooper Award, Best Website in the entire Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Paul Jon Miller Award, Best Newsletter Under 50 members in the SCV, at the 2016 National Reunion in Richardson, Texas. Members in attendance were Commander Joe Reynolds and 1st Lt. Commander Rex McGee.

August 1st, 2016
- The regular monthly meeting for our camp was held at our Headquarters. Compatriot Michael Hurley gave an informative speech on the Confederate Irish.

August 18th, 2016 - The 1st Lt. David Richard Reynolds Camp #2270 ran an ad in the Mount Pleasant, Mount Vernon, Pittsburg, Omaha, and Daingerfield Newspapers Expressing our thanks to the Law Enforcement Officers for their duty. Commander Joe Reynolds and 1st Lt. Commander Rex McGee Presented Proclamations and Donuts to the Sherriff and Police Departments in Camp, Franklin, Morris, and Titus Counties expressing the same.

proclaiming August 18th as Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. 1st Lt. Commander Rex McGee and
Assistant. Chief of Police Kyle Holcomb is also pictured.

September 10th, 2016 - Camp Commander Larry Joe Reynolds and 1st Lieutenant Commander Alvin Rex McGee attended the 5th Brigade Commanders Meeting in Pittsburg, Texas.

September 19th, 2016 - Camp Commander Larry Joe Reynolds gave a program (Masons and the Civil War) to the Northeast Texas Shriners Club in Mount Pleasant, Texas.

September 21st, 2016 - Camp Commander Larry Joe Reynolds placed 10 Confederate Flags on Confederate Veterans' headstones and submitted paperwork to become Guardian of their resting place at the Bridges Chapel Cemetery in Titus County, Texas.

October 3rd, 2016 - Our Monthly Camp Meeting was held and we swore in a mew member, Talks With White Buffalo, a member of the Cherokee Tribe.

October 7th, 2016 - Camp Commander Joe Reynolds visited Bennion and Tranquil Cemeteries in order to Clean and Place Confederate Flags on 18 Confederate Heroes graves in order to take on the responsibility of becoming the Guardian of these soldiers.

October 13th, 2016 - Camp Commander Joe Reynolds visited the J. M. Matt Barton Camp #441 in Sulphur Springs for their Monthly Meeting.

October 15th, 2016 - Camp Commander Joe Reynolds visited Piney and Bivens Cemeteries in order to Clean and Place Confederate Flags on 19 Confederate Heroes graves.

October 16th, 2016 - Camp Commander Joe Reynolds visited Blevins-Cason Cemetery in order to Clean and Place Confederate Flags on 17 Confederate Heroes graves.

October 20th, 2016 - Camp Commander and wife visited Gen. John Gregg Camp Monthly Meeting in Longview, Texas.

October 22th, 2016 - Camp Commander Joe Reynolds attended a Graveside Memorial Service for Col. DeMorse at the Clarksville Cemetery and while there presented Camp Commander Bobby Smith with the Dixie Award that he won at the National Reunion.

October 29th, 2016 - Performed Graveside Memorial Service for 40 Confederate Veterans and Hughes Springs Cemetery in Hughes Springs, Texas.

October 29th, 2016 - We held our First Annual Birthday Celebration for our Camp Namesake, 1st Lt. David Richard Reynolds. It was held at the Old Union Community Center where we celebrated with a Civil War Supper (Beans, Cornbread, Peach Cobbler, and Homemade Ice Cream). We also had a live band that played period, country and gospel music.

November 1st, 2016 - Camp Commander Joe Reynolds and 1st Lt. Commander Rex McGee attended the Upshur County Patriot Camp's Monthly Meeting in Gilmer. Commander Joe Reynolds gave their program, Masons in the Civil War and presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Ester Linton.

November 7th, 2016 - We held our Regular Monthly Meeting, Compatriot John Hitt from the Gen. John Greg Camp in Longview gave our program, "The Civil War, Armaments, from the Dark Ages to Modern Times".

November 17th, 2016 - Commander Joe Reynolds and wife Keesie attended to Red Diamond Monthly Meeting in Texarkana. Joe presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Donna Stotts.

December 5th, 2016 - The 1st Lt. David Richard Reynolds Camp #2270 held it's 2nd Annual Christmas Dinner, over 40 people in attendance. Those in attendance included, Army of Trans-Mississippi Commander Johnnie Holley, 1st and 2nd Lieutenants for the 5th Brigade, Phil Maynard and George Linton, other distinguished guest and visitors, including members from six camps in the 5th Brigade.
